What are optimal settings for the best visual results?

This document is intended for EnergyPlanner users who want to achieve the highest possible visual quality in their projects.

The settings below have been carefully tested to deliver the best possible visual rendering within EnergyPlanner, providing sharp, realistic, and smooth visuals that bring your simulations to life.

Please note: actual performance depends on your hardware capacity. Lower specifications may negatively affect image quality or overall smoothness.

1. Settings in EnergyPlanner

Open EnergyPlanner and adjust the settings via:
Edit > Settings

Visual Quality

  • Anti-Aliasing: enable
→ Smooths edges and removes jagged lines on objects.

  • Enable MSAA Samples: enable and set to 4x
→ Refines visual detail and enhances the realistic appearance of 3D models.

Shadow Settings

  • Shadow Quality: set to at least High
→ Realistic shadows improve depth and spatial perception.

Pro Settings (for Line Projects)

  • Resolution Scale: 2
→ Increases image resolution for sharper results.

  • Street View Quality: at least High
→ Ensures clear and realistic surroundings in street view mode.

  • Skydetect Scaling: at least High
→ Enhances lighting and color accuracy of the sky, contributing to a natural look.

Tip: Higher settings produce better visuals but also require more GPU power. Make sure your system is capable of running these configurations smoothly.

2. Using the Correct Graphics Card (for Laptops)

Many laptops include two graphics processors:

  • a standard (onboard) GPU for basic tasks, and

  • a dedicated GPU for graphics-intensive applications.

For the best visual performance, EnergyPlanner should always use the dedicated GPU.

For Windows Users

  1. Go to Settings > System > Display

  2. Scroll down and click Graphics settings

  3. Add the browser you use for EnergyPlanner

  4. Under Options, select High Performance

  5. Confirm with Save

This ensures that EnergyPlanner uses the dedicated GPU, resulting in smoother and more stable rendering.

3. Verification

After configuring the settings:

  1. Restart EnergyPlanner and review the visual quality.

  2. Check if the correct GPU is active:

    • Windows: via Task Manager

    • macOS: via Activity Monitor

Important to Know

The recommended settings are based on internal testing with various projects and hardware configurations. They are designed to provide the best visual representation of models, lighting, and environments within EnergyPlanner.
