How to enable the dedicated GPU in laptops?
To ensure optimal performance with EnergyPlanner, users may need to enable their dedicated GPU—via the Nvidia Control Panel or Windows settings, depending on the version. Additionally, enabling hardware acceleration in the browser (e.g., Chrome) can help, though users should consult online resources or support due to varying hardware and browser setups.
Laptops with dedicated graphics processors (GPU's, mostly from Nvidia) require a settings-change. To save energy, the GPU is disabled while browsing the web. To enable the high-performance video chip for use in EnergyPlanner, go to the Nvidia control panel (through the Windows task bar or Windows control panel) and add your browser to the power-save exceptions.
In Windows 10 and 11 this works differently. You don't have to use the Nvidia Control Panel, but it's a setting in Windows itself as shown below.
Optionally, see "how to enable Hardware Acceleration in Google Chrome". There are too many hardware- and browser-specific combinations to explain, so kindly refer to your favorite search engine or ask our support staff.
